The subject line of this email is a classic question, and one Court and I get asked on a daily basis. In fact, I was just reading a friend's article about how much he's making online, and I saw the "how long?" question asked at least a couple of times. If you'd like to skip the rest of this message, here are my short answers to the "How long till I make money online?" question:
Longer than 99% of people are willing to sustain focus.
...and...
Not nearly as long as discouraged newbies think it will take.
Yes, those are vague answers. Let's put it in perspective with a couple of specific examples:
In the last few weeks I've had some great conversations with former one-on-one students of ours. Both of them started effectively at zero online income. One of them is now plugging away at about $1500 per month (we started working with him about five months ago), and the other made over $10,000 last month (he enrolled in late January).
I just couldn't be happier for these two hard-working guys, and couldn't be more proud of the fact that we were part of their success. When I asked them about what it took to get where they are today, their answers were similar, and went something like this:
"Well, the truth is I was up and down for the first couple of months - in my motivation, effort, and results. It's just not that easy to focus when you have a job, and you're trying to have a life, and then you're trying to build a business online at the same time. I just had to keep plugging away at it. I'd put in 20 minutes here and an hour there, and after a while I started to see some results."

Can You Get Excited About $10 Per Month Online? I Hope So.
What did they mean by "some results?" A dollar here, two dollars there - heck, in the early days they were ecstatic if they made $10 one month and doubled it to $20 the next month. After all, that's a 100% increase. I loved what one of the students - Steve - said about his longer term goals:
"People have to realize that making an income on the internet is a marathon, not a sprint. If you get into this game thinking you're going to go from zero to thousands per month in a couple months you're just going to get frustrated and quit. My plan is to increase my income by about 5% per month for the next three years. That will get me to my goals."
Let's work through the math for a second. Let's say you bust your tail for 12 months and achieve an income of $1,000 in the 12th month (although Steve did that in his fourth month). Now let's say you're able to increase that income by 5% every month after that. Three years later your monthly income would be just over $6,000 per month. If you include the first year, it would have taken you four years to reach an income of about $72,000 per year.

Much More Lucrative Than College (or University)
You know how much the average college graduate earns? I did some research and I couldn't find a single example of a college grad earning a starting salary of more than about $60,000, with most starting out between $30,000 and $40,000.
Of course, it's not even a fair comparison. College students aren't making money (typically) while they're in school, and they're definitely not seeing a 5% increase in their income every month. Quite the contrary. In many cases they're going tens of thousands of dollars in debt.
If you become the persistent web entrepreneur in our example you will not only hit $72,000 per year by the end of your fourth year, you will have earned a total of over $101,000 during your four years of "schooling."
I guess some people will say it's not possible to increase your income by a measly 5% per month over a three year period. That's fine. I would encourage those people to settle into a nice corporate job, and hang out there for 30 or 40 years.
Based on my experience, a 5% monthly increase is not hard at all - it's the first $1,000 that's tough. If you can knock out that first thousand per month, the sky is really the limit. You'll have confidence, momentum, and enthusiasm on your side - not to mention the cash. People are attracted to internet marketing because you can get started with very little cash. But I'm here to tell you that internet marketing gets a lot simpler (dare I say easy?) when you've got some money to put behind your work ethic and creativity.
So what's the problem? Why is it that 99% of the people never get to $1,000 per month, let alone $6,000 per month?

Keep the Right Perspective About Time Frames
People have completely absurd ideas about how much they can make in their first few months as an internet marketer. I love the quote from management guru Peter Drucker:
"We greatly overestimate what we can accomplish in one year. But we greatly underestimate what we can accomplish in five years."
I would change the quote slightly for you:
"We greatly overestimate what we can accomplish in a month. But we greatly underestimate what we can accomplish in a year."
If you're serious about making money on the internet, be prepared for a very boring first few months. It will be quite a bit of work with not much obvious payoff. The key - the absolute KEY - to success is persisting in the right activities day in and day out for the first few months.
If you're wondering whether it's worth it, just trust me - it's worth it. Your leanest months as an internet marketer will be much happier than your richest months as a corporate monkey (as least that's been true for me).
So, I guess it took me about 1,000 words to say this: If you can persist for 9 to 12 months, you'll have something. Hang in there.

I'll give you an example. My ecommerce site made its first sale in
November of 2006, and finished 2008 with over $100,000 in sales
for the year. There's a lot I would change about the site, but I
suppose you have to call a site that grosses six figures a success.
While the site is doing well, there are a couple of things I'd
really do differently if I could go back to two years ago when I
started. Today I'll share one with you. Here is what I consider
the biggest mistake I made with my ecommerce site:
I only started one.
I guess this isn't a mistake with the site itself, but it's a
mistake I made with my overall internet income goals. Only starting
one site had two major consequences:
1. I had all my plans, hopes, and dreams riding on one site. This
set me up to be discouraged and frustrated when the site wasn't
making me rich overnight, even though it was growing steadily.
You'll always be discouraged if you attach your goals and dreams to
a site that can never deliver what you want - at least not all by
itself.
2. I moved too slowly. A big part of success online is just sitting
around and waiting - waiting for links to index, waiting for domains
to age, waiting for rankings to improve. While you're waiting you
can either obsess over each visitor to your site and each adsense
click you get, or you can start several other sites and get them on
the same growth path as the first.
Think about it - would it make sense for a farmer to plant just one
seed, and then sit and stare at it for months to make sure it grows?
"I better make sure this one pans out before I plant any more."
Meanwhile, there's a whole field of fertile soil being neglected
(by you, that is - your competition is planting seeds all around
you, all the time).
Don't Let Time Pass You By
As we've taught you more and more about keyword targeting I've had
a recurring fear - the fear that you'll do a little "case study"
of your own, with a single site, and after a few months you'll get
that number 1 spot on Google. You'll be elated because you'll feel
like you finally cracked the Google code, you've made it, arrived,
etc...but then the site won't make much. Maybe $3 to $5 per day...
or maybe nothing.
But let's say it does average $5 every day. Personally, I think a
$5 per day site is something to be excited about when it's part of
a portfolio of ten similar earners. But if you invest 6 months into
getting that one site ranked, and then another month or two watching
it get to $5 per day, you're going to be furious, and if you're not
- you should be.
Because in the same eight months you could have created ten or
twenty - or thirty - of those sites. And instead of making $150 per
month online, you'd be making $1200 to $1500...or more (we've had
students blow past $1,500 per month like it's nothing). $1,500 per
month covers quite a few bills doesn't it? Pays off some debt? Might
even cover the rent or the mortgage.
Or...it could pay for an amazing two week family vacation - every
six months.
How Do You Start Multiple Sites Without Spreading Yourself Too Thin?
To avoid starting a bunch of sites and getting nowhere with them,
here's what I advise:
Find ten great keywords, buy the domains and start linking to them
- get them aging from day one.
Set up all ten domains on one hosting account (to save money...we
use hostgator.com - they're easy to use and very inexpensive - you
can host unlimited domains for under eight bucks a month).
Install Wordpress on all ten sites (a two or three click process if
you host with hostgator.com). Create one 300-500 word post (with a
post title that contains your main keyword) for each site and
publish it.
Get all ten sites into Google's index. The fastest way to do that
is to get a few links from other sites already in Google's index.
So now you have ten sites set up, indexed by Google, and aging.
What's next?
Build the Site with the Most Promise While the Others Age
Choose the keyword with the most promise - the one with the least
competition and the most profit potential.
Once you've chosen your most promising keyword, aggressively build
that site. Add ten pages of SEO-friendly content and start building
links like crazy with the right anchor text.
After finishing the content on your first site, move on to another,
write the content, begin building links and so on. After a few
months all ten sites will have content, some age in Google's index,
and lots of solid links.
Not long after your first site starts making a few dollars a day,
the rest of your sites will catch up and you'll be on your way to
the passive internet income you've hoped for.
So be a smart farmer...plant some seeds and get ready for rich
harvest in just a few short months.

But there seems a genuine willingness to help others and some of the students here are quite successful AND still help the newbies. This is VERY different from most other sites.
3) You and Court seem to care and take an active role on the forums proving that you have a vested interest in your students success vs. having a vested interest in only selling more memberships. I’ve seen responses from the TKA folks quite a bit in the forum postings and that is encouraging. Many other membership site gurus sell the customer on joining and then disappear never to be heard from again.

We hold two Q&A sessions in the evening, and one in the early afternoon. With this schedule we’re able to get accommodate most of the time zones around the world. For students not able to attend the live Q&A we make the most recent three sessions available as downloadable recordings in two formats – windows movie files and mp3 audio files.
You’ll have the opportunity to have at least one personal coaching session with either Mark or Court. The session will last 30 minutes or so, and it’s completely up to you what we discuss. Most students want to talk about their keyword selection, their websites, and how they can get to their goals as quickly as possible. In order to get your 30 minute session with us all you have to do is sign up for your web hosting account through our affiliate link. Your hosting account will still only cost about ten bucks a month, but the hosting company will pay us a nice commission for sending them business. That commission lets us spend some personal time with you to make sure you’re on the right track.

It will take you about 20 minutes to have your first website online.The reality is you’re going to be a lot better off as an internet marketer if you have some basic web publishing skills (being able to set up a simple website and publish content on it), but we’ll show you how.

All three groups will benefit from TKA Pro. Beginners and intermediate students will get the most from the program because they’re most likely missing a specific method to help them build momentum and actually create some cash flow.
